The famous FC Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and former Coca-Cola vice-president Emmanuel Seugé are investing 3 million euros in Sorare, the fantasy football blockbuster. Gerard Piqué also joins the Sorare team as strategic advisor.

As Sorare points out, the appetite for the athlete investor to re-imagine sports and media companies for tomorrow’s audiences is not new. In particular, he created Kosmos Holding, his own investment fund. The footballer is on all fronts, and is more akin to a multifunctional entrepreneur. Today he runs several companies in real estate, eSport, food and many other areas.

His Kosmos fund holds the rights to the Davis Cup, one of the most prestigious international tennis competitions. By investing in Sorare, Gerard Piqué hopes to promote the blockbuster game to major clubs and help the team in its goal to create a global fantasy football game:

„I see enormous potential in the development of online football games in a digital economy where audience attention is the most important monetary unit. I look forward to helping Sorare develop its partnerships with football leagues, clubs and players around the world to create the best possible fantasy football experience,“ commented Gerard Piqué.

Sorare’s CEO, Nicolas Julia, adds :

„Gerard is not only one of the world’s best advocates, he is also an active entrepreneur who is redefining the sports and entertainment industry. The strategic advice and business acumen that Gerard brings to our Board of Directors is invaluable. I am pleased that he is joining our team to unleash the passions that online fantasy football can generate with Sorare. »

The French Sorare project is already meeting with considerable success on the international scene. The platform’s non-fungible tokens (NFTs) are reaching new heights in terms of trade volumes and value.

A fortnight ago, a digital card bearing the effigy of the player Kylian Mbappé was sold at auction for more than 55,000 euros, a record for Sorare.

Sorare’s trading volumes have exploded in recent months, totalling $5.7 million since its creation

And on the side of partner clubs, Sorare is adding big names at a frenetic pace. The latest major club to join Sorare is Real Madrid. All of the club’s players are now available on Sorare in the form of NFTs, which users are scrambling to assemble their teams.

Sorare’s ecosystem is growing rapidly, and the new funds raised will enable the French startup to continue to grow.
